My background is in graphic design, and much of my professional experience was learned in good ol' New York City. I spent the first few years of my career exploring the various corners and avenues of the design world:
- in-house creation of marketing collateral
- ad agency creation of one-off pieces for various clients
- photo retouching
- print design for publications and special events
- branding systems and collateral
- environmental design
- designing for web and light front end development
Then I found what I actually wanted to do in 2010—digital product design solving complex problems. Over the years, and through a lot of trial and error, I've learned how to apply both sides of my brain on projects. The analysis, critical thinking and reasoning side thrives in the fuzzy and uncomfortable parts of projects where no one really knows the why just yet. Then the creative, attentive to detail and systematic side kicks in when we're finally ready to tackle the what and how.
Now I lead teams of designers, developers, stakeholders and key decisionmakers through this process over and over again. I provide design direction, mentor younger designers, project manage, oversee client engagement, present to senior members of leadership and teach best practices in digital product design.
I hold high standards and enjoy lively design debates. Give me a challenge and I'll rise to the occasion every time.
